Umphrey’s McGee Busts Out “Muff II: The Revenge”, Covers Bob Marley With Joshua Redman [Full Audio]

first_imgThough Umphrey’s McGee has been performing without guitarist Jake Cinninger for the past few days, the remaining band members have kicked into overdrive to bring things up to speed. Last night, UM hit Rochester venue Anthology, playing to a packed house as a five man band. The group got rocking with “Domino Theory” and more, but one of the biggest treats of this January tour has been the addition of saxophonist Joshua Redman. The master improviser has only fueled the fires of Umphrey’s McGee’s jam-friendly music, and his addition to tracks like “The Linear,” “Example 1,” “Make It Right” and more has helped the band shine brightly. He returned in the second set as well, jamming to the tunes of “Upward > 1000 Places to See Before You Die > Similar Skin.” He also stayed on for a fun cover of “Lively Up Yourself” by Bob Marley, accentuating the reggae tune with his horn soaked grooves. The show also featured a “Front Porch” that sandwiched the band’s first “Muff II: The Revenge” since 12/20/13 – a gap of 311 shows. They closed out the night with a two song encore, playing “Orfeo” and “Waiting Room” to send the fans home smiling.
