October saw the activation of the stevedoring tax hike and now government is reminding of the November increase on the pricing of tourism activities. A 12% tack on to the cost of services in 19 new areas, as the Revenue Department in the Ministry of Finance reminds the public that the House of Assembly has approved an amendment to the Hotel and Restaurant (Taxation) Ordinance for these changes to take effect. There is push back from the sector, but it appears that all will go ahead as TCIG planned… as the tax for these designated tourism service providers will apply if the company exceeds a quarterly income of $12,000 or annual income of $50,000. It will be 12% more expensive for services like: water sports, sight-seeing, concierge, fishing, destination weddings, photography and golfing. Ex-Manchester United star Paul McGrath named Paul Pogba as one of three players that must step now and prove themselvesFollowing his World Cup triumph with France in the summer, Pogba has failed to replicate his performances for the national side at United. The 25-year-old midfielder’s relationship with Jose Mourinho fell apart altogether at the start of the season. But now the Portuguese coach has left, McGrath feels it’s time for Pogba to answer his critics by proving himself in the Premier League.“I don’t like having a straight-out go at a lad who is still actually a young footballer – but Paul Pogba now owes a debt to Manchester United,” McGrath told the Irish Independent.“He’s a world champion. And I’m sorry, but it is not as simple as saying that with France last summer he was surrounded by class acts with who it was easy to play – Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, N’Golo Kante, Blaise Matuidi and Raphael Varane, etc.“It doesn’t matter who you are playing with. I saw Paul Pogba chasing back, heading balls out of his own penalty area, tackling, covering, grafting, when France were under real pressure protecting a 1-0 against Belgium in the World Cup semi-final.Maguire says United need to build on today’s win George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Harry Maguire wants his United teammates to build on the victory over Leicester City.During the summer, Harry Maguire was referred to as the ultimate…“That was nothing to do with the quality of his team-mates. It was Pogba wanting to be the best player and team-mate he could be, to be a winner, not the player of the last two months at Manchester United.”The former Irish defender added that forwards Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez must also step up now Mourinho’s longer around. He added: “Pogba is not alone in not producing his best. There are others.“Cynics say Jose Mourinho only bought both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to stop Chelsea and Manchester City getting their hands on the players.“There’s a grain of truth in that about Sanchez for sure, and Pep Guardiola must be thinking ‘what an escape that was’ when he considers the outlay the Chilean international would have cost his club.“As for Lukaku, I’m not so sure. What I wonder about him is that his style is not best suited to a rigid, slow, possession-based game that Mourinho favoured. Why did he buy him?“Lukaku is about power and putting himself about and disrupting defences. Mourinho wanted his players to play around those defences, not through them! What did he want the big Belgian to do?”
Kim Kardashian at Met Gala 2019InstagramKim Kardashian was so committed to her Met Gala 2019 ensemble that she sacrificed sitting, peeing and even breathing! The KKW Beauty mogul, in a behind-the-scenes video shared by Vogue, is seen talking about the hardships of squeezing herself in an ensemble curated by Manfred Thierry Mugler. Turns out a team of three people were required to lace up her corset so that she could fit perfectly in the skin-tight gown.In the video shared by Vogue, Kim Kardashian is seen stating, “Okay, so Anna [Wintour], if I don’t sit down for dinner, now you know why. I’ll be walking around, mingling, talking, but I cannot hardly sit.” Further, in the video, Kim K also mentioned, “Wish me luck, I won’t be able to pee for about four hours,” she said while dressing up for the big night. “We’re coming up with a plan for what we do in case of an emergency.” The challenges for the reality TV star didn’t end there as she had to deal with further transportation perils. Speaking about the same, Kim told the paparazzi, “I asked them to get a stool. So I’ll have to stand as I’m riding in a sprinter van on the way there with, I think, a pole, so I can hold onto the pole,” and added, “Just wish me luck.”Kim Kardashian’s ‘wet look’ surely left a mark at the Met Gala 2019 red carpet. With its eccentricity and a dress that was like no other, the ensemble definitely made an impact. As Kardashian spoke about details concerning her gown, she revealed that it took the designer nearly eight months to complete it! “This is the first time in 20 years that Mr. Mugler has designed for the House of Thierry Mugler,” she quoted at the red carpet. “So [for him] to come design this gown for me, is such an honor. This is about 8 months in the making,” she concluded. The 39-year-old star shared pictures of her ‘wet look’ along with details on Instagram. She wrote, “Mugler Drip Straight out of the ocean @manfredthierrymugler His first design in 20 years. Manfred Thierry Mugler for Kim Kardashian West / MET BALL 2019 with Mugler Fashion House. Barack ObamaFormer US president Barack Obama said Friday that social media powers like Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter are leading to “snap judgements to complex issues” and warned leaders to think before tweeting.Obama was repeatedly asked about his successor, President Donald Trump, at a New Delhi symposium but stuck to a general warning to all high-profile figures to take care.”I think it’s important to be mindful of both the power of these tools but also its limits,” Obama said when asked about the dangers of Twitter, a platform on which Trump has caused repeat controversies.”What I would say is Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, all these various platforms are extraordinarily powerful tools, and those tools can be used for good and they tools can be used for ill,” he said.Highlighting how he has 100 million Twitter followers — “more than other people who use it more often” — Obama said: “I think it’s important to be mindful of both the power of these tools but also its limits.”Obama’s wife Michelle recently took what was seen as a subtle swipe at Trump, asking the audience at an event to spellcheck and not tweet everything that comes into their mind.”I think she was just giving a general advice, the same advice that you used to hear from your mother generally … don’t say the first thing that pops in your head,” the two-term leader told the conference, which was organised by the Hindustan Times newspaper.”Your mother and father knew better. Listen to them. Don’t do things like that. Think before you speak, think before you tweet.”- ‘Destructive populism’ -Obama was more direct in criticising Trump’s threat to leave the 2015 Paris climate accord on slashing global carbon emissions.”It is an agreement that — even though we have a little bit of a pause in American leadership — is giving our children a fighting chance,” he said.Trump has threatened several times to withdraw from the Paris accord saying it is crippling US business. He has called for the agreement to be renegotiated.Obama would not be drawn into other questions about the US administration at the appearance where he called “destructive populism” a threat to modern democracy.”The thing I love about America and I suspect the thing you love about India is just this cacophony of life and it throws up all kinds of variety,” Obama said in response to one attempt to force a comment on Trump.”There are political trends in American that I don’t agree with and abide by but I recognise as part of a running thread in American life.”Obama said he has become “obsessed” with the way news is handled and consumed, particularly by the young.”We are more connected than ever before but … more and more we are fitting facts to suit our opinions rather than formulating our opinions based on facts,” said Obama, who was in China before visiting India, and next goes to Paris.
