first_imgKolkata: A wall mural made by the women survivors of sexual violence will be put up in the city on December 14.The women will be assisted by some former students of Government Art College. This is for the first time when the survivors of sexual violence will make murals that will depict their aspirations, dreams and what they can achieve with regard to their work or profession at a personal level. This is a part of a three-week long awareness campaign launched by Swayam, an organisation working for the causes of women. Short films on #Metoo movement were shown at Rotary Sadan on November 30. Besides India, short films from Sri Lanka, Afganisthan, Pakisthan, Nepal Also Read – Rain batters Kolkata, cripples normal lifeand Bangladesh. The awareness drive will be launched in Kolkata and its neighbourhood. Rally against sexual harassment on women and girls will be held from Maheshtala to Metiabruz in South 24-Parganas on December 5. On December 6, there will be a programme on communal harmony. On December 8, theatre and music group personalities will interact with the common people at different places in South Kolkata. On December 10, a human rights fair will be organized at ranu Chaya Mancha. A spokesman for Swayam said the whole idea behind organising the three-long programme is to create awareness among women coming from all walks of life. It is in fact that women are being sexually abused both at home and outside. Through the programmes women will be urged to come out and lodge their protests.last_img
